About the Founder
Dawn McCoy
The Honorable Dawn McCoy is a nationally-recognized speaker and author with numerous published leadership development articles. She is a sought after speaker and has trained corporate, government, and academic audiences nationwide. Ms. McCoy founded Flourish Leadership Group, LLC after she made a decision not to run for re-election in 2006.
She was also among the youngest African-American leaders elected to the Sacramento City Unified School Board in 2002, one of the nation’s top fifty largest school systems with 46,000 students. While serving as a school board member from to the Sacramento City Unified School District, she sparked renewed accountability, advocated for effective governance, and initiated greater civic participation. McCoy has also coordinated statewide public awareness campaigns and served in pivotal and national non-profit leadership capacities and as a Capitol Hill legislative aide.
McCoy has written extensively on effective leadership, governance, and non-profit management for more than fifteen years. Ms. McCoy was born in Philadelphia and raised in the San Francisco Bay area. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Howard University and a master’s degree in public policy (MPP) from Georgetown University where she was a Bryce Harlow Scholar.
